I’m talking about Copywriting. Any time you’re faced with writing something aimed at your customers, you’re writing “copy”. This includes the aforementioned blog post. Copywriting is a profession, and the challenge of writing copy that actually converts people into customers can be highly intimidating. At some point or another, within an SME you are likely to need to do some copywriting, regardless of whether you write a business blog.
If you’re looking for some other general writing guidance, improving your headlines and call to actions amongst a boat load of other things, I couldn’t help but also point out that Joanna Wiebe is an absolute rockstar over at copyhackers.com It’s maybe a little more focused on general copywriting, but some of the principles are universal whether it’s a landing page, marketing brochure or a blog post.
